Note: In parliamentary elections held on November 17, the New Majority (Nueva Mayoria) coalition of former president Michelle Bachelet secured majorities in both chambers. New Majority, composed of the same parties in Bachelet’s previous Concertación coalition, won 67 of the 120 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and holds 21 of the 38 Senate seats. In simultaneous presidential elections, Bachelet won 46.67 percent of the vote, necessitating a run-off with Evelyn Matthei (UDI), who placed second with 25.01 percent. Bachelet won a decisive 62.2 percent in the December 15 runoff, but the low turnout of only 42 percent may weaken her mandate.
