Note: Teodoro Lonfernini (San Marino Christian Democratic Party) and Denise Bronzetti (Party of Socialists and Democrats) were elected captains regent on September 17, 2012, and inaugurated for a six-month term on October 1. For the November 11 legislative poll, the San Marino Christian Democratic Party and the Party of Socialists and Democrats spearheaded an electoral alliance called the San Marino Common Good, which secured 35 of the 60 legislative seats and all of the posts in the new cabinet approved on December 5.

Political Status: Independent republic dating from the early Middle Ages; under multiparty parliamentary regime.

Area: 23.6 sq. mi. (61 sq. km).

Population: 32,140 (2012E—U.S. Census).

Major Urban Center (2005E): SAN MARINO (4,800).

Official Language: Italian.
