Note: The literal translation of Gau Hedinarai is “entity of the people,” hence the official title in Hari-Motu could be “Republic of Papua New Guinea.”

Note: Following a cabinet reshuffle on December 7, 2010, Prime Minister Michael Somare, facing charges involving financial irregularities, stepped down on December 13. Sam Abal, previously the minister of foreign affairs and most recently the deputy prime minister, assumed the duties of acting prime minister. In an unrelated matter, on December 10 the Supreme Court ruled invalid the June reelection of Governor General Paulius Matane and called for the National Parliament to conduct another election.
