Established: By charter signed at a meeting of 14 insular and littoral Indian Ocean countries March 6–7, 1997, in Port Louis, Mauritius.
Purpose: To “increase cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, tourism, science, technology, and human resource development.”
Headquarters: Vacoas, Mauritius.
Principal Organs: Council of Ministers, Committee of Senior Officials, Indian Ocean Rim Business Forum, Indian Ocean Rim Academic Group, Coordinating Secretariat.
