Note: On October 25, 2009, Uruguay held parliamentary and presidential elections that resulted in gains for the political left. The Broad Front (Frente Amplio), the governing coalition, won 16 of 30 seats in the Senate and 50 of 99 seats in the lower house. The Blanco Party won 9 seats in the Senate and 30 in the lower house while the Colorado Party won 5 in the Senate and 17 in the lower house. The smaller Independent Party won 2 seats in the lower house.
