Note: In the first National Assembly elections since 1992, balloting was held on September 5–6, 2008, for 220 directly elected seats with proportional representation, all for four-year terms. The seat distribution was as follows: Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola, 191; National Union for the Total Independence of Angola, 16; Social Renewal Party, 8; National Front for the Liberation of Angola, 3; and New Democratic Coalition, 2. A new prime minister, Antonio Paulo KASSOMA, was appointed by the president on September 30 and sworn in later the same day. Kassoma named a new government on October 1.
