Union du Fleuve Mano

Established: By the Mano River Declaration issued by the presidents of Liberia and Sierra Leone on October 3, 1973, and accompanying protocols signed in 1974.

Purpose: To promote the economic development of member states by the elimination of tariff barriers and the creation of new productive capacity, with particular emphasis on the hydroelectric potential of the Mano River; also, in recent years, to further peace, security, and stability in the region.

Headquarters: Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Principal Organs: Ministerial Council, Secretariat.
