Note: In early March 2009, judges at the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant for the arrest of President Omar Hassan al-Bashir for war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Darfur conflict. Enjoying the support of the African Union and the Arab League, al-Bashir has ignored the warrant and continues to act as head of state.
