Note: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) announced his resignation on May 4, 2009,after his attempted firing of army chief Rukmangal Katawal was blocked by President Ram Baran Yadav.At the center of the dispute was an agreement under which former Maoist militants would be permitted to join the military.As of May 19, Dahal and the Maoists were preventing veteran communist leader Madhav Kumar from forming a coalition government, demanding that Katawal not be reinstated as army chief.
