Note: Ivars Godmanis and his government resigned on February 20, 2009, after failing to restructure the size of the government as promised and losing the support of President Valdis Zatlers and two of the coalition parties, the People’s Party (TP) and the Greens’ and Farmers’ Union (ZZS). On February 26 Zatlers nominated Valdis Dombrovskis as prime minister. By early March, Dombrovskis had assembled a five-party coalition consisting of his own party New Era (JL), the People’s Party, the Greens’ and Farmers’ Union, For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK (TB-LNNK), and Civic Union (PS). The government was approved by the Saeima on March 12 with a significant majority of 64 of the 100 seats, compared with 53 for Godmanis’ outgoing government.
