Note: In the regularly scheduled presidential election on August 11, 2007, opposition candidate Ernest Bai Koroma of the All People’s Congress (APC) led the republic’s vice president, Solomon Berewa of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), though neither candidate had attained the 55 percent vote threshold to secure victory. In a second-round runoff on September 17, Koroma secured 54.6 percent of the vote to defeat Berewa, who received 45.4 percent, and Koroma was inaugurated for a five-year term the same day. In parliamentary balloting on August 11, the APC won 59 seats; the SLPP, 43; and the People’s Movement for Democratic Change, 10.
