Note: Following balloting for the House of Representatives on November 24–25, 2007, it was reported that the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ, the leader of the current government) won 66 of 153 seats, followed by the opposition Social Democratic Party of Croatia with 56 seats, and six smaller parties or election blocs, none of which secured more than 8 seats. Prime Minister Ivo Sanader of the HDZ was designated by the president on December 15 to form a new government, and by the end of the year it appeared that Sanader was preparing to announce coalition agreements with enough of the small parties to permit him to form a cabinet with a slim majority in the legislature.
