Historical Background

The war in Europe moved to its climax in early 1945. From west and east, Allied and Soviet forces drove into the heart of Adolf Hitler's Germany. Less than three months after his fourth inauguration, President Franklin D. Roosevelt died of a cerebral hemorrhage on April 12, 1945, in Warm Springs, Georgia. Vice President Harry S.
