On September 14, 2019, two of Saudi Arabia’s oil installations were damaged in an attack that temporarily halted half of the country’s oil production. The largest-ever assault on Saudi oil infrastructure, the incident did not provoke immediate retaliatory action from the United States, one of Saudi Arabia’s principal allies, but it did escalate growing tensions between America and Iran, which is believed by the West and Saudi Arabia to be responsible for the attacks.
