Almost every year since 1901, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to a person, group of people, or organization selected from a list of more than 200 nominees. On October 11, 2013, the committee announced that the annual prize would be awarded to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for its work to eliminate the use and existence of these deadly arms.
