China Announces Relaxation of Some Social Policies: November 15 and December 6, 2013
On November 15, 2013, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping announced the decisions from a meeting of top Chinese leaders to restructure the economy and relax some of the country's social policies, most notably the one-child rule. The moves came as a surprise to many in the West, given that the policies have been long-standing strongholds of Chinese socialism. Together, the policy changes are intended to strengthen the Chinese position in the global economy and silence unrest.
