The gerrymandering of political districts has emerged as one of the more challenging issues the federal courts have struggled with in the past decades. The Supreme Court reiterated in 2017 that gerrymandering along racial lines is a clear constitutional violation, but it has never struck down a redistricting map on the grounds of purely partisan gerrymandering.
