In 2018, Armenia experienced a peaceful public revolution that ushered in a new government, putting an end to more than twenty-five years of Republican Party leadership. Revolution leader Nikol Pashinyan, a member of parliament and vocal critic of the government, was installed as the country’s new prime minister in May. Just five months later, Pashinyan resigned to force snap parliamentary elections that he said were needed to realign the distribution of seats in the National Assembly with Armenia’s new political reality. The December election resulted in a major victory for Pashinyan’s political alliance while dealing a huge blow to the Republican Party.
