In May 2018, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched its latest mission to Mars, sending the InSight spacecraft on a nearly seven-month journey to the red planet to explore below its surface. While the spacecraft was en route to Mars, the European Space Agency (ESA) announced the discovery of a liquid body of water under the planet’s south pole.
