On March 4, 2018, Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, two Russian nationals, were spotted by passers-by in a semicomatose state on a public bench in the city of Salisbury, England. Later tests revealed that they had been exposed to the deadly nerve agent Novichok, a chemical substance developed by the Soviet Union in the 1970s.
