Brown, Edmund (Jerry) G., Jr.

Edmund G. (Jerry) Brown Jr. (1938–) was born April 7, 1938, to Edmund G. (Pat) Brown Sr. (the 32nd governor of California) and Bernice Layne Brown. In his early life, he attended both private and public schools, culminating with his studying for the Catholic priesthood at Sacred Heart Novitiate in Los Gatos, California. Brown changed course in 1960, leaving the school to earn his bachelor's degree at the University of California, Berkeley, and his juris doctor from Yale Law School. After holding a number of smaller offices, Brown was elected California secretary of state in 1970.
