Austin, Texas
Austin is the capital of the state of Texas and is located in Travis County in central Texas; it has a current population of roughly 800,000 and is roughly 300 square miles. Mirabeau Buonaparte Lamar, who would become the second president of the Republic of Texas, first envisioned the city of Austin. While he was vice president under Sam Houston, he went buffalo hunting in a place on the Colorado River inhabited by only three families living in a stockade created by Jacob Harrell.
The city is situated on the Colorado River and has three artificial lakes within the city limits: Lake Austin, which was created by two dams along the Colorado River; Lady Bird Lake, which was also known as Town Lake; and Lake Walter
