Laclau, Ernesto
Ernesto Laclau (1935–) is an Argentinean-born political philosopher whose works have contributed significantly to the development of post-Marxist thought and recent theories of political discourse, ideology, and radical democracy. He began his studies at the University of Buenos Aires, where he was also active in various left-wing movements including the Socialist Party of the National Left. In 1969, he moved to England to continue his studies at Oxford University. Since 1973, he has taught in the Department of Government at Essex University, and he has held guest professorships in the United States.
