Abstract
West Virginia, a coal mining hub in the United States, recently banned five major financial institutions from conducting business with the state after sustainability initiatives pushed these banks to pull back from coal and fossil fuel investments. With clean energy development on the rise, however, this punitive action may end up only hurting West Virginia’s state economy. This case asks students to consider and discuss the ban.
