Abstract
In a surprising move, popular rideshare app Uber has partnered with taxi companies in New York and San Francisco, and app users will now be able to hail rides from cabs through Uber’s interface. Uber made its name as a “disruptor,” earning the ire of cab drivers whose business declined as Uber and its rideshare competitors grew in popularity and fundamentally changed the labor infrastructure of the gig industry. But the COVID-19 pandemic hit Uber hard, and now the company is seeking alliances with its former rivals as an opportunity for growth for both. Students are asked to discuss the partnership and how Uber and the taxi industry might benefit from it.
