SpiceJet: Turnaround in the Aviation Industry

Abstract

Ajay Singh, chairman and managing director of SpiceJet, had changed the face of aviation in India, while adopting measures that turned around the airline’s performance. The case highlights Singh’s managerial and leadership decisions, particularly in areas focusing on developing a low-cost business model for the airline. Through various strategic initiatives, the company bounced back from a near shutdown to operate in a profitable manner. This case draws attention to the journey behind that strategic turnaround, describing various challenges that the business had to face.
