Slim Pickings and Hungry Strays in COVID-19

Abstract

After the coronavirus pandemic reached India, the country initiated a lockdown to curb the spread of infection. Misinformation led to residents abandoning animals, and the lockdown itself meant stray animals lost access to food sources. The government and other organizations took steps to feed stray animals and to change the messaging to convince people to stop abandoning their pets. Blue Cross India was one organization that set up kitchens to prepare meals for animals living on the street, but as the pandemic continues, resources are running out.
