Shell Moves to Britain

Abstract

Oil company Shell recently announced plans to move its headquarters from the Netherlands to Britain. The move will have big ramifications for both countries’ economies: The Netherlands will lose its largest public company while Britain’s post-Brexit business-friendly reputation will be boosted. But the move has stirred skepticism over Shell’s intentions, with critics seeing it as an opportunity to skirt green energy mandates in Europe while benefiting shareholders and ridding itself of taxes imposed by the Dutch government. Students are asked to discuss the move and its potential impact on Shell, the Netherlands, and Britain.
