Abstract

At the Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum in June 2012, Koichi Kaneda, senior director of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited, was convinced that integrated reporting would lead to a transformational change in corporate social responsibility activities. Takeda Pharmaceutical had been publishing “integrated” annual reports since 2006. However, the early editions were just combined volumes of financial and nonfinancial reports. To learn further about and advance integrated reporting norms, Takeda participated in a Pilot Program of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) in 2011. Kaneda was invited to provide the IIRC with feedback on a series of drafts for the International Integrated Reporting Framework, which was finalized and released in December 2013. He identified both challenges and opportunities in the IIRC consultation process. What feedback should he provide? What should his company report, and to whom? How and why could Takeda share their experiences with others?
