The Recovery of the Helsinki-Tallinn Ferry Traffic: Post-Covid-19

Abstract

In this case we look at closely at one of the busiest international passenger ferry connections in the world, namely the one between Helsinki, Finland and Tallinn, Estonia. The success of transport is based on large high-speed vessels, the combination of passengers and cargo, and sales on board. From the time of Estonia’s independence from Russia, traffic had been growing steadily, until the Covid-19 pandemic caused a rapid collapse of passenger volume in 2020. Through this case, we can study the alternative decisions managers have to take for the traffic to regain its financial stability.
