Abstract

This case places the evolution of Nike and Adidas in the context of the rivalry between these two firms and helps students reflect on the nature and effects of competition. While focusing on sneakers and delving into the history of how these firms developed, this case helps students understand the issue of monopolies and competition in a free market economy, in addition to helping them frame this issue in terms of social identity theories.
