New England Biolabs (NEB), a small biotech company in Ipswich, MA, seeks continual improvement initiatives in environmental, social, and economic responsibility. NEB has selected a location for a solar array that works well for all stakeholders. Brian, NEB’s Corporate Controller, is now examining the state incentive programs and carbon offset companies with a critical eye for how they shape the commercial sector’s impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Brian also questions whether these incentive programs create the paradigm shift needed to address the climate crisis and drive renewable energy development. He is concerned that the interest in renewables will diminish after the incentives run out.
