Navigating Through the Danger Zone: A Career Transition Coaching Case

Abstract

Navigating Through the Danger Zone is the story of a coaching client who was pushed out from his successful position as a corporate executive, a position he had held for 10 years. He held several successful roles in law, public policy, executive office government and regulatory agencies prior to this position. He believes that he has one more good run—one more senior leadership role—in him before he retires. He is beginning to consider a portfolio career, comprising a variety of roles rather than one job at a single organization, a career that combines multiple paid and/or voluntary roles.

This case presents background information for a role play between a coaching client and an executive coach.

The background information briefly introduces and describes the context of the case scenario. The coaching client is Kevin. His executive coach is Jennifer. The names are aliases to maintain the confidentiality of the client and the coach.
