Meta Under Fire for Sexual Harassment in the Metaverse

Abstract

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has come under fire for various cases of sexual misconduct on its VR (virtual reality) platforms, Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues. Through these platforms, Meta aims to create an immersive experience where people can have engaging social interactions on the internet. However, it is struggling to create a robust system that makes the virtual world more comfortable and safer for women. This case study discusses the effectiveness of Meta’s solutions to remedy the issue of sexual harassment in the Metaverse.
