Managing Business and Human Resources During Crisis: The Case of Sindabad.com During COVID-19

Abstract

Even though Bangladesh has more than 700 e-commerce websites, Sindabad.com is unique among them as the country’s first and only B2B website. Even though the company was predominantly serving corporate clients, its business model faced a huge challenge due to the emergence of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Facing a crisis as their clients shut down their businesses, the company was forced to bring changes in its business model. As a result, the company had to bring immediate changes in their staff placement, introduce new training modules, and identify ways to motivate employees during the crisis. This case invites students to play the role of a business consultant and encourages them to find a right business model for Sindabad.com. In addition, this case encourages students to position themselves as HR strategists by allowing them to critically assess and evaluate a company’s HR strategy during a global crisis.
