Abstract

Alice, a worker with an alcohol-abuse disorder who has suffered several relapses, is put on a disability management plan that includes a last chance agreement requiring complete abstention from alcohol. After Alice had signed the last chance agreement, her manager Fatima observed her drunk in a grocery store during non-working hours. Fatima must decide how to proceed, including whether to ignore the incident, discipline Alice, provide her with coaching and support, or terminate her employment.
