Instagram’s Latest Lawsuit: Examining Data Privacy in Big Tech

Abstract

In yet another legal dispute over breaching users’ privacy, Instagram is facing a new lawsuit alleging that the social media app has been watching users through their front-facing smartphone cameras. This latest suit adds to a larger reckoning the app and its parent company, Facebook, are in the midst of after the U.S. government filed two antitrust lawsuits and the EU moved to impose stricter regulations against them. The case reviews the details of the lawsuits and asks students to discuss what they mean not only for Instagram, but for Big Tech in general.
