Abstract
In a landmark move, representatives of 175 countries agreed during the United Nations Environmental Assembly in March 2022 to draft a legally binding global treaty that aims to stem the boom in plastic pollution. Over the next two years, environmental representatives will articulate the details of the treaty, establishing the sustainability obligations that governments, businesses, and plastic producers will need to meet, with a target of finalizing it by 2024. Students are asked to discuss the agreement and the ways in which businesses will have to adapt in order to reduce plastic pollution.
