Abstract

This three part case series discusses the acquisition of Swedish car manufacturer Volvo by the Chinese carmaker Zheijan Geely Holding Group. The first case in this series outliners the history of both companies and explains the initial obstacles of the Chinese acquisition. Volvo’s management initially resisted Geely’s plan for aggressive growth in China preferring to build a strong brand and business case for entry into the Chinese market.
