Abstract
Disney employees in Florida recently sparked a series of walkouts and protests across U.S. Disney locations in opposition to the company’s silence over the state’s recently passed Parental Rights in Education bill, which has been widely criticized for being anti-LGBTQ+ and potentially harmful to LGBTQ+ youth. Disney provided financial support to state legislators supporting the bill and has historically been quietly conservative on LGBTQ+ issues, driving employees to demand that the company cease campaign contributions and take measures to better protect employees from the legislation. In apology, Disney has committed to acting as a better ally to LGBTQ+ communities but so far has only temporarily paused political donations. This case asks students to discuss the walkouts and Disney’s response.
