Abstract

In this case a safety program at Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (known as Alba) serves as an example of institutional entrepreneurship achieving culture change. The common culture within Bahrain and its industries is influenced by respect and concern for familial relationships, and both are part of the calculus of decision-making. Through the efforts of a U.S. chief executive backed by a strong Board of Directors and Executive Management team, a change in the safety culture and process improvements helped avert injuries and billions in damage when a major power outage occurred and enabled a return to production after a quicker-than-expected recovery.
