Can Salary Transparency Laws Close Wage Gaps?

Abstract

Under a new law that went into effect in November 2022, companies with four or more employees that post a job in New York City are required to include salary ranges on all job ads, promotions, and transfer opportunities. The landmark law was created to promote salary transparency as a tool to narrow racial and gender wage gaps. This case asks students to discuss the new law and its potential efficacy in closing wage gaps.
