Clarinda Regional Health Center (CRHC) is a small, rural provider that must cope with multiple uncertainties about health insurance, health care, and its local market. Changes in local markets tend to be gradual, but changes in Medicare, Medicaid, and private health insurance can be abrupt and unsettling. In particular, repeal or replacement of the Affordable Care Act (2010) might dramatically affect all of CRHC’s lines of business. After examining the market and reviewing CRHC’s financial statements, this case invites students to serve as strategy consultants to CRHC as it navigates an ever-changing environment.
