Sherry and I were about the same age, but other than that simple fact, there were very few similarities between us—at least on the surface. For example, Sherry came from the Deep South, a totally different background, lifestyle, and culture than mine. A strikingly beautiful woman, she had been concerned with her physical looks as a girl and young woman. But even though she was a former beauty queen and had been a first runner-up for Miss Mississippi, we hit it right off when we met. Sherry became one of my best friends.
