In May 2015, women held approximately 23% of the seats in the national legislatures of Latin America and the Caribbean. Although 23% is still not equal, women have clearly made gains in the region in recent years. Only 3 countries have less than 10% women in their lower house of parliament— Brazil, Belize, and Haiti—while 10 countries have more than 30%—Argentina, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guyana, Mexico, and Nicaragua (see Table 12.1).
