Explaining the Political Represetation of Women— International Factors
In the previous three chapters, we distinguished two sets of factors that affect women’s levels of political representation around the world. Supply factors increase the pool of women with the skills to run for political office, and demand factors make it more or less likely that women will be pulled into office from the supply of willing candidates. In this chapter, we examine international influences on women in politics, explaining how international actors such as the United Nations can increase the supply of women while simultaneously influencing states to increase their demand for women.
