Neither of the first two editions of Women in Mass Communication had a concluding chapter. In this third edition, we added one to summarize what has not changed over these 16 years and to provide a forecast for the future.

The title of the first edition included a subtitle: Challenging Gender Values. Authors in that 1989 edition predicted dramatic changes for women in the various mass communication professions.
