Proven Benefits of Psychotherapeutic Interventions with Children and Adolescents
While walking along a riverbank, a counsellor suddenly sees a child drowning. Immediately he dives in and saves a life. Once safely on dry land, the counsellor turns to see two more children in the same predicament and bravely dives in and saves two more lives. Exhausted but relieved, the counsellor sits down on the riverbank when a passer-by approaches and comments: ‘I've just watched you save three children's lives. That's fantastic, but could I make a suggestion? Have you ever considered going round the bend in the river upstream to see who might be pushing them in?’ (adapted from Mackay, 2000)
