The aim of this book is to present a responsibly positive case for psychotherapy and counselling as beneficial. Obviously, this field is regarded positively by its practitioners but, arguably, its benefits have not been as clearly promoted to a wider audience as they might or should have been. As a practitioner who is also a critic of the field, I am acutely aware of such tensions.
