Preventing and Countering Bullying Behaviour and Cyber-Bullying in Schools

The primary goal for this chapter is to provide the reader with an introduction to bullying and cyber-bullying: how these areas have been researched, and how inroads can be made into preventing and countering these behaviours in schools and school communities. In order to be effective in accomplishing this, we must first consider what is school bullying? We then examine the different types of bullying behaviour, including cyber-bullying, and empirical research evidence into these areas. The chapter then takes a more practical turn: key issues for schools and school staff emerge, and practical ideas for anti-bullying work in schools are presented.
